Norges Vel Strengthens Its Presence in Northern Mozambique: Office Opening and Field Visits

On October 15, Norges Vel officially opended its new office in Nampula, marking a milestone in its commitment to being closer to partners, communities, and the heart of agricultural development in northern Mozambique.

The opening was part of a broader mission involving His Excellency Mr. Egil Thorsås, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, representatives from Norges Vel Norway and the Mozambique office, and visiting partners Lorenz, ICRISAT, VGM, and Brynild, key actors across the groundnut and cashew value chains, from production and research to processing and market access.

Although the Governor of Nampula could not attend due to engagements in Maputo, the Provincial Government extended its support. Eunisse da Silva, National Director of Norges Vel Mozambique, highlighted that Norges Vel's decision of relocating the office from Maputo to Nampula strengthens collaboration and impact.
“Being based in Nampula allows us to engage more closely with partners and communities, enhancing the quality and sustainability of our programmes,” she noted.

Following the inauguration, the delegation conducted field visits to:

  • AMPCM Cooperative Union – peanut and cashew production and cooperative structures;

  • AflaLivre Facility – Aflasafe production, aflatoxin testing, and peanut processing;

  • Central Nursery of Namaita – seedling production and cashew propagation;

  • ETG Cashew Processing Factory – large-scale cashew processing and market linkages.

The visits provided a platform to discuss partnership opportunities and collaboration along the value chains to enhance quality, productivity, and market competitiveness for smallholders.

Ambassador Thorsås emphasized that relocating the office to Nampula was “indeed the right decision,” reinforcing that closer engagement with field partners strengthens impact. With its presence in the north, Norges Vel continues to foster sustainable agriculture, cooperative development, and inclusive growth through collaboration, local ownership, and shared learning.
